But let’s be honest: you can have the most visually stunning slide deck in the world, but if you’ve got thirty teenagers in a room on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, a fancy animation isn’t going to stop the boy in the back from staring blankly out the window.

If your lesson plan relies on every single pupil being able to hold five new concepts in their head at once while you’re trying to manage a disruption in the back row, you’ve already lost them; simplify the input before you try to deepen the thinking.
